Sorry, this page is still "under construction" because of all my resources being spent on building the EV.

What I intend doing is building my own 3kW grid connected solar array using individual solar cells mounted on painted plywood under a clear polycarbonate roof. This will substantially reduce the installation costs compared to paying premium prices for convenient but very expensive solar panels.

• In Brisbane (Australia) "green" electricity costs an extra AUD$0.03/kWh on top of the average price of around AUD$0.13/kWh for "dirty" electricity which = AUD$0.16/kWh.
• The utility company will buy my PV electricity for AUD$0.08/kWh, therefore the green electricity will save me AUD$0.08/kWh.
• Six hours (average includes cloudy and winter days) of 3 kW per day = 18kWh per day.
• 18kWh  x AUD$0.08 = AUD$1.44 per day.
• AUD$1.44 x 365 = AUD$525.00 per year.
• 30years x AUD$525.00 = AUD$15,750.00.
• Allow AUD$20,000.00 for very conservative inflation of electricity costs.

Therefore if I can build my own array including inverter for less than AUD$20,000.00 I'm in front.

First up quotes to supply solar cells was AUD$12,000.00, grid connected inverter AUD$7,000.00 and the other materials <AUD$1,000.00. I think I can do a lot better than this, stay tuned!
